Rain hits big Jubilee celebration

RAIN had a devastating effect on one of the biggest Jubilee celebrations in the Warrington area.
The family fun day and celebrity cricket match organised by Lymm Oughtrington Park Cricket Club was badly hit by the weather.
A Twenty20 cricket match between a celebrity team consisting of soccer and cricket stars and Coronation Street and Hollyoaks personality went ahead in pouring rain – and resulted in a win for the celebrity team aided by Australian Test star Stuart Law who hit the ball all over – and out of – the ground!
A Kwik Cricket competition between local schools also went ahead in the wet.
But off-the-field activities were largely cancelled.
Former boy band singer Anthony Costa had to call-off his visit because of the risk of damage to sound equipment. A mini funfair didn’t turn up.
Several hundred people did cram into tents, a marquee and the pavilion – but the anticipated four-figure crowd failed to materialise.
But club officials are still hoping to have raised a significant amount for the Help the Heroes charity.
