WARRINGTON Wolves boss Tony Smith says he is keen to retain the services of his most experienced players who are all out of contract this year, as the club prepares for Saturday’s Magic Weekend clash with local rivals Widnes.
The Wolves will have over 4,000 fans at the unique event at the Etihad stadium in Manchester – scene of Manchester City’s thrilling Premier League success.
Smith was joined at the venue by veteran player Lee Briers,(33) who is one of a number of senior figures out of contract this season, alongside skipper Adrian Morley,(35) full-back Brett Hodgson,(34) hooker Mickey Higham(31)and forward David Solomona (34).
“I love them all, they are all terrific players,” said Smith, who says talks have started with them all, although he concedes it is difficult to retain all players, bring on younger ones and remain below the salary cap.
Meanwhile tickets have been disappearing at a fantastic rate from the WolfWare shop at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, with the club managing to conjure up an extra allocation, those too have been enthusiastically snapped up with only a few remaining.
The whole event promises to be a showcase for the sport, ably supported by the army of Wolves fans who will add their own primrose and blue voice into the cauldron of sound. The fan village with local supporting acts will entertain fans, along with the Super League trucks at Stobart Fest to make for an enchanting atmosphere for the whole weekend.
Local rivals to the core will battle if out on Saturday at 4pm, league position and previous encounters will count for nothing on neutral ground, with the two Stobart Super League points in equal need by both sides as the Wolves challenge Wigan for top spot.
