Wizards work their magic

WARRINGTON Wizards came out on top against Nottingham Outlaws in this Conference Three fixture at Wilderspool Stadium in a very entertaining contest to make it two wins out of two.
The Outlaws started the brighter but the Wizards soon assumed control and thoroughly deserved the victory against a side that played their full part in an excellent game that was played in a very sporting spirit throughout.
Nottingham opened the scoring in the third minute when quick hands from right to left created room for winger Will Thomas to squeeze over in the left corner but the Wizards hit back seven minutes later when good work from stand off Alan Reddecliff close to the line saw him put second row Paul Alcock over on the left. Scrum half Graham Healey added the conversion.
Almost immediately the Wizards were over again when a break by hooker Hayden James split the Outlaws defence and he found Healey in support to race thirty metres and score under the posts. He converted himself and then midway through the half a penalty to the Wizards put them close to the Outlaws line and a short ball from James found substitute John Brotherton who used his strength to twist in the tackle and score on the left. Healey goaled to put the Wizards in command at 18-4 which is the way it stayed upto the interval despite the Wizards having numerous chances to increase their advantage.
Four minutes into the second half good work close to the line by Reddecliff saw him switch play and go down the blind side to find centre Mike Stout who squeezed over in the left corner and then just before the hour mark substitute Warren Ayres spotted a gap and went through only to be held just short but a quick play the ball saw fellow substitute Ian Stephenson, on his one hundredth appearance for the club, find Reddecliff who stepped through a gap to score under the posts. Full back Troy Brophy added the conversion.
Almost immediately a break by Reddecliff was carried on by Alcock and his superb long ball found Stout who went over in the left corner before the Outlaws gained a consolation try six minutes from time when quick hands stretched the Wizards defence and good work by stand off Paul Calland saw him put winger Jimmy Goodwin over wide out to make the final score 32-8 to the Wizards.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Wizards substitute John Brotherton. He was very well supported by Paul Alcock, Ryan Jones, Dan Crampton and Mike Stout.
