Wizards prepare for home opener

WARRINGTON Wizards will host their first game of the season at Wilderspool on Saturday, kick off 5.00pm.
The Conference Three clash will see Nottingham Outlaws travel to Wilderspool Stadium, and assistant coach Paul Alcock says this fixture will be a sterner test than what they came up against at Bristol last weekend.
Alcock said: “They narrowly lost at Coventry in their first game but got a great result against Hemel Stags last week that will really put them on a high for this weekend.
“We have to make sure that we play with a high intensity for the full eighty minutes, and if we are able to do that them I am confident that our ability will shine through and give us a great chance of making it back to back wins. It will be nice if we could get a big crowd behind us that will spur us on to victory.”
The Wizards go into the game on the back off a 56-12 victory at Bristol Sonics, and Alcock said he was relieved to get the season underway at last.
He said: “We have trained really hard for a few months now but you cannot tell how well we are gelling until we actually get into a game situation.
“We have obviously got quite a number of quality additions to our side and it was really pleasing to see them hit it off together in such a clinical fashion. There are still a number of things that we need to work on but the initial signs are very encouraging for what we hope will be an exciting season for us.
“The camaraderie that we have is excellent with everybody working for each other, and that did show out on the field against the Sonics.”
Wizards will be without Craig Middlemore and Martyn Bradshaw due to personal circumstances, but expect Warren Ayres to be fit enough to take to the field after missing the Bristol match with a knee injury.
