Tommo returns as skipper quits

WARRINGTON Town are delighted to announce the return of their former “Captain fantastic” and fans’ favourite Mike Tomlinson, following the sudden and shock departure of current skipper Tom Hardwick, who has decided to join local rivals Skelmersdale United.
The board of directors at Warrington Town have expressed their bitter disappointment at Hardwick’s decision to desert the club at a crucial stage in the season, particularly after he pledged his allegiance to Warrington only last week after boardroom talks.
Discusssions with Hardwick (pictured right) last week resulted in him making the statement that his biggest wish for this season was to “Lift the play off trophy with Warrington” and further talks with manager Joey Dunn resulted in him stating that he intended to inform Skelmersdale United that he did not intend to move anywhere at the moment, joking “How could I go anywhere with the way we are playing” and appearing to endorse this with the celebration of his succesful penalty by raising his shirt over his head in support of injured striker Lee Madin on Tuesday evening.
Dunn said he was “unbelievably disappointed” and felt “personally cheated” by his decision.
He added that his view that Hardwick had a level of integrity and honesty about him as an individual, making him suitable to be captain of the club, had been grossly skewed and had been accepted as totally misaligned in the light of the walk-out.
Dunn however did not allow the situation to prevent plans to further strengthen the chances of promotion by moving very quickly to plug the gap left by the walk out, moving to expedite the conversations he had been having on an ongoing basis with former club skipper Mike Tomlinson.
As a consequence the club is delighted to welcome back Warrington born “Tommo” who was sorely missed after deciding to retire from the game at the back end of last season.
Dunn (Pictured left) added: “I have spoken to the players and reminded them of the focus of our attentions and reminded them that a number of players have left: Corrigan went and we replaced him with Crossy, no disrespect but Louis will never be Crossy. Hickey left and we have scored 17 in 9 games so he hasn’t been missed given his inability to make an impression at Skem and now we have replaced Hardwick with former England Semi-pro international Tommo.
“I think it is safe to say that we have come off best at Warrington, but the most important thing is that we continue to move forward. We have previously come back bigger, better and stronger in the face of adversity, and as I have mentioned to the players it is their responsibility to show those people who have left, that the brown grass thay are looking at once looked greener than that at the Wire.”
Still only 31, the club believe “Tommo” has plenty left to offer the game and his presence in the dressing room will be welcomed in the push for the end of season play-offs.
Although he has not played for nine months “Tommo” has been training with the team and also been keeping himself fit while away from the game.
Dunn added: “In the current situation, Tommo is a priceless commodity but even longer term I don’t believe that a club at our level could make a better signing than Mike.
Every single attribute in his skill set is at least 810. He trained last night and his booming voice was a welcome sound to all at the Wire.”

  1. Always disappointing when a player leaves the club, but the team has never replaced Tommo and Hardwick didn’t have the skills needed to captain the team. So good news that Tommo is back.
