WARRINGTON’S 2013 Rugby League World Cup campaign has received a major boost from Atkins, one of the world’s leading design and engineering consultancies which has offices based in Birchwood Park.
Atkins backed the town’s Rugby League World Cup bid and showed it’s support by pledging £1,000 which will go towards promoting the tournament coming to Warrington.
The company went on to raffle the benefits it received from it’s pledge to employees with all proceeds going to Grappenhall Hall Special School and Warrington Alzheimer’s Society.
Prizes, which were donated by other supporters of the bid, included: tickets to a Wolves match, a ball signed by all of the Warrington Wolves team, a meal for two at Park Royal Hotel or Village Hotel and a weekend away at either of these hotels.
Warrington beat of stiff competition to land a successful bid with a group game and quarter-final game, as well as being a host town and training camp town for one team.
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “It’s great news that Atkins have backed our 2013 Rugby League World Cup campaign – their support really makes a difference. We are very proud to be a host town for this fantastic tournament and have been bowled over by the backing we’ve had from local businesses who feel the same. We would welcome support from any other local businesses that want to be part of the magic of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.’
Ian Jacobs, Director of Atkins said: “We are delighted not only to have supported Warrington with their successful bid but at the same time been able to raise funds for two local charities.’
