Children in Need telethon donation calls handled by volunteers at BT’s Warrington call centre totalled £100,150.
Volunteers took thousands of donation calls during the seven hour telephone frenzy. Widespread fundraising activity also took place on site, including cake sales, a “Name the Teddy” competition and a drinks trolley raffle with a crate of wine for a prize among many others.
Mike Blackburn, BT’s Regional Director for the North West, said: “This is our opportunity to help out on one of the most important fundraising events of the year and BT volunteers have provided thousands of hours of their time over the last 31 years to help make the telethons happen. All the staff are really supportive of Children in Need and we really enjoy doing what we can to make a difference.”
In total, BT handled over 240,000 calls from viewers across the country during the BBC telethon, marking 31 years of support.
More than £26,332,334 had been raised 2am – and millions more is expected to pour in over the coming weeks as people send through all the monies raised at fundraising events across the UK.
BT is in a unique position to assist charity telethons and is proud to be using its technology and network expertise to help those most in need around the world. With BT’s help, BBC Children in Need has raised more than £600 million since it began.
