Lymm safe at last!

LYMM Rugby Union sailed into safe waters with a startling come back against play off hopefuls Darlington Mowden Park.
Losing 20-3 on 60 minutes it looked like Lymm were to suffer their third successive home defeat after a lacklustre performance.
The visitors had travelled to Cheshire with a slim chance of securing a play off spot and seemed to have the quality to brush lymm aside but great defensive work from the hosts, especially the back 3, kept the score to 5-3 at half time to DMP. Jack Johnstone, particularly, in a man of the match defensive performance against the most dangerous wing in the league.
Within 14 mins of the restart Darlington had seemingly blown Lymm apart with 2 tries and a penalty making it 3-20. With the talismanic Adam Bray and Adam Fletcher off the pitch injured Lymm looked lost. Andy Roberts was introduced at 12 and this gave the home team some structured confidence. Immedialty Lymm secured good ball on their scrum and Joe Knowles looped around to put Luke Emmitt over on 59 minutes.
Ninety seconds later Lymm, again, suddenly dominant in the set piece enabled Scott Harrison to sneak over on a catch and drive. Emmitt expertly slotted the conversion to make it 15-20.
Darlington still sniffed the bonus point and maintained their attacking pressure but poor handling, on 71 mins, led to a Williamson fly hack from his own 22. Knowles supported brilliantly and received the ball from the Lymm full back to score and bring the scores level. Emmitt, again, in a difficult wind, slotted the extras to make it 22-20.
Coach Kinsey was ecstatic saying: “We earned this win through 15 mins of intense rugby in the last quarter. Its frustrating when we fluctuate from poor to excellent in just minutes. Thankfully we seemed to have the ability to turn it on when it matters.”
Director of Rugby Richard Boundy praised the players saying: “ There were times when we looked out of the game in every department. We are now safe and I think it’s a fantastic achievement for Lymm to consolidate at this level.”
Lymm seconds lost to a strong Stockport 2s 25-10 but the highlight of the weekend for many was Lymm thirds capturing the 4 South championship with a 55-12 win against Macclesfield 4s. This was a great success and credit to Paul Rathbone and the boys.
Lymm Firsts entertain high scoring Penrith on Saturday.
