TWO Warrington high schools have been highly commended in a competition organised by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
Great Sankey High and Lysander High at Padgate have been highly commended for their efforts in creativity and ingenuity with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) as part of the National Science and Engineering competition.
Great Sankey High received high commendation in the Engineering specialism category, while Lysander Community High received high commendation in the Technology specialism category.
Both impressed the judges with their excellence in their respective subject areas.
Specialist schools were asked to submit a short student-produced video to highlight how their school has been innovative and effective in work in STEM. These were submitted along with a case study of their work submitted by teachers.
Competition was stiff with 25 schools from across the country vying for first place. After entrants were whittled down to finalists, shortlisted schools were visited personally to find the highly commended schools and winners.
Great Sankey and Lysander received high commendations with their impressive and engaging video submissions and the accompanying project work.
The judges felt their entries excellently showcased just how hard they have been working to promote the importance of STEM.
Dr Fiona Burford, manager of the National Science and Engineering Competition said: “There were some fantastic entries into the Competition this year, but the students’ videos from Great Sankey and Lysander really demonstrated their hard work and dedication to engage and inspire those around them.”
They will receive their awards on March 11.
