PEOPLE in Stockton Heath are increasingly on guard against crime and reporting suspicious incidents to police.
PCSO Peter Crellin told the parish council that during the previous month 16 incidents of suspicious activity were reported by the public.
He said: “They did not result in any crimes, but it is reassuring to know that the public is prepared to report suspicious activity to police.”
During the month there were 10 incidents of anti-social behaviour, including two of youths gathering on The Forge shopping centre car park.
Generally the incidents related to the noise of people “spilling out” of pubs in the village centre.
There were two burglaries – one at the Royal British Legion and one at a house behind the police station – and nine thefts including shoplifting and theft from motor vehicles.
During icy conditions, speed watch duties were suspended to avoid the hazard if drivers “slamming on their brakes” when they saw police. But during six hours duty, 73 vehicles were caught with 60 per cent of these being local.
He said: “These are not people from out of the area but local people who obviously feel blasé in their own area.”
