WARRINGTON Town’s league match away at Clitheroe has been postponed due
to the snow and ice and with the big freeze set to continue next week’s
home clash with Halifax is also a major doubt.
It is now a month since Warrington last saw any action in the 1-1 draw at home to Woodley Sports on December 12.
With matches earlier in the season being postponed due to water logged pitches the Yellows are facing a major fixture backlog.
Prior to the big freeze they already faced a game ever three or four days in February.
The postponments are frustrating for Manager Joey Dunn and his team who had faced a big month in January with key matches against follow play-off contenders including near neighbours Leigh, which was called off on New Years Day, with Halifax due in town next Saturday, January 16.
With Halifax bringing a large travelling support of 500-600 it is also a financial blow for the club which has now gone a month without any revenue.
“The players are keen to get back in action,” said a frustrated Dunn. “January was going to be a massive month for us with some big games but with the big freeze set to continue it could be some time before we can get back in action.”
But Dunn is keeping busy behind the scenes looking to strengthen the squad as he bids to take Warrington into the Unibond league play-offs for the first time in the club’s history.
