YOUNG patients at Warrington Hospital can look forward to having their meals delivered from the deepest jungle or the depths of the ocean.
Food delivery on the children’s wards has a new look – with a specially designed, state of the art food trolley.
Out goes Fireman Sam, a trolley designed as a fire engine, as he retires after nine years. It was a regular on the children’s wards ringing its bell to announce its arrival.
The new trolley is decorated with two themes – Aquarium and Jungle – featuring cartoon bears, sharks, fish and other animals. It can take up to 30 meals at a time from the kitchen to the children’s wards.
Its themes also appear on the new menu cards children are given.
The Children’s Wards are running a competition to name the new trolley and youngsters who have been patients are invited to enter. The competition closes on November 27 and the winner will receive a £20 voucher.
Children wanting to enter can email entries to gina.coldrick@whh.nhs.uk or post to Communications, Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Warrington Hospital, Lovely Lane, Warrington, WA 5 1QG. Entries should include name, age, address, contact parent/guardian telephone number, the ward stayed on and date of stay.
Children’s ward manager Amanda Turton said: “It is sad to say goodbye to Fireman Sam, but the new characters are fun and the new menu cards have proved a hit with the children on the wards.”
Catering manager Steve Miller said: “Fireman Sam has, indeed, worked very hard on his journeys delivering meals for our children’s ward and has earned his retirement.
“We hope that the lively cartoon characters on the new trolley, which are also on the menu cards, will encourage the children to eat, particularly the healthy choices available on the menu.”
