PLANS for a former care home in the Stockton Heath Conservation Area to be converted into offices for a law firm have been approved by borough council development control chiefs.
The scheme involves a change of use of a double front detached property and an adjoining semi-detached property in Grappenhall Road, Stockton Heath. The care home – which accommodated six residents and a housekeeper – closed about 18 months ago.
Planning officers recommended the scheme be approved – but were concerned about proposals for tandem parking which would provide 15 spaces but raise safety worries.
They said the number of parking spaces should be reduced to eight to avoid excessive, hazardous reversing of vehicles. This level of parking would be adequate in view of the nearness of public car parks.
The other half of the semi-detached property is already in office use so will not be sensitive to increased noise.
There would be no significant alteration to the external appearance of the buildings, councillors were told.
