52 complaints against council

FIFTY two complaints were made to the Local Government Ombudsman about Warrington Borough Council last year.
But the Ombudsman decided 13 of them had no merit – and of the remaining complaints, 18 were investigated and no maladministration was found.
In eight cases, the council agreed to a local settlement in instances where there was a possibility the Ombudsman might find there had been maladministration.
A local settlement can be anything from a letter of apology to a “time and trouble” payment or a compensation payment, or a combination of all three.
Two complaints were made which were outside the jurisdiction of the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman recommended that all complaints were initially responded to within 28 days and made 25 requests for detailed comments.
These were responded to, on average, within 22.4 days.
The council has been told there was a marked improvement in response times compared to the previous two years.
