Former councillor dies

A FORMER councillor and trade union official at Warrington has died – nine years after standing down from the borough council on health grounds.
Honorary Alderman Harry Shaw had represented several wards on the council between 1983 and 2000. He was at one time chairman of the Direct Services Organisation and later chairman of the education committee.
He represented the Poulton-with-Fearnhead North Ward, then Longford and later Poplars. Latterly he represented the Penketh and Cuerdley ward.
He leaves three children and two grandchildren.

Harry Shaw was a staunch Labour Party supporter, but he won the respect of all political parties through his serious minded approach.

He was a fine public speaker, his calm approach often restoring order during the most heated of debates. Yet at the same time he could engage in the cut and thrust of the most fierce politcal duels.

A funeral service will take place at St Joseph’s RC Church, Meeting Lane, Penketh on Friday, October 2 at 10.30am.
