College proud of cup winning students

FORMER Priestley College students Mike Cooper and Tyrone McCarthy are celebrating a landmark achievement at the very beginning of their professional rugby league careers following their Challenge Cup success with Warrington Wolves.
Some of the most gifted players to play the game never get the opportunity to experience a Wembley final in their lifetime but for McCarthy, 21 and Cooper, 20, Warrington’s Challenge Cup Victory over Huddersfield gave them the opportunity to fulfil a childhood dream.
Cooper has been a rock steady member of the senior squad in 2009 after recovering from a broken leg injury that not only threatened his career but indeed his life while McCarthy took his place in the team after making just three senior appearances.
Both of the players studied Sport at Priestley and played for the all conquering College rugby league team that has continued to dominate the sport at that particular level.
Priestley’s Head of Sport, Nigel Howells, was a very interested spectator of the Cup Final and was very proud of the duo and said: “When Mike and Tyrone were at Priestley we were aware they had a special talent as they both were already being selected for international honours.
“Both players did really well on the day and belied their young ages, I’m sure both of them have very promising professional careers ahead of them.”
