GRAPPENHALL secured an impressive six wicket win over second place Cheadle Hulme in the Chapel Press Cheshire County League first division.
The win at Cheadle strengthened the Broad Lane side’s position in the first season after promotion.
Cheadle were dismissed for a meagre 107, with left arm seamer Ian Hall taking 5-23.
Hall made it a match to remember by stop scoring with 30 not out as Grappenhall replied with 108-4. Richard Green hit 29 and Adam Roylance 20.
Grappenhall 2nd, reduced to 10 men when pace bowler Sam Guest had to leave the field through illness, were unlucky to go down by a hair’s breadth at Broad Lane.
Cheadle Hulme 2nd batted first and reached 197-5, Mark Roylance taking 4-72.
Grappenhall were 192 all out at the close, Matt Titchard hitting 37 and Neil Titchard 63.
Grappenhall 3rd won by two wickets in a low scoring game at Bowdon where the home side were dismissed for 89, Jack Critchley taking 5-13 and Neil Muttock 3-23.
Grappers also struggled for runs and lost eight wickets reaching their target. Chris France top scored with 36, Muttock 13 and skipper Paul Tyerman chipped in with a timely 11 not out at the end.
Over at Walton Lea, Warrington’s position became more desperate as they suffered another defeat to remain rooted at the foot of the division one table.
They were dismissed for 148 and then saw the visitors reach 151-4.
But Warrington 4th romped to a nine wicket win at Timperley, hitting 120-1 in reply to the home side’s 118.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Glazebury suffered a heavy defeat at Haslington where the home side amassed 236-4 despite Chris Ayre’s 3-61.
Glazebury were back in the pavilion for 121, Deveshe Shete top scoring with 36 and skipper Chris Lord hitting 24.
Glazebury 2nd won by seven wickets against Haslington at Hurst Lane.
The visitors were dismissed for 131, Paul Charlton taking 4-25 and skipper Wayne Hargreaves 2-29.
Glazebury replied with 133-3, Hargreaves hitting 31 before retiring with an attack of cramp, and Rhys Marsh hammering 40 not out.
Rylands dismissed Chelford for 92 and went on to win by nine wickets.
Appleton 3rd went down by two runs in a low scoring game with Frodsham, which saw Appleton dismissed for 56.
Appleton 4th had a narrow victory over Stalybridge St Pauls, hitting 132-9 to their opponents 126 all out.
Women’s cricket
WARRINGTON returned to winning ways with a five wicket win over Stoke side Meir Heath in the ECB Women’s Premier League North.
The home side batted first and started well, reaching 54-1. But they then slumped to 69-5 before recovering to an eventual total of 152.
Warrington bowlers performed well with Natalie Heap taking 3-25, Hannah Gradwell 3-21 and Katie Coppack 1-33.
Indeed all the Warrington attack played their part in a hugely improved bowling show and all took at least one wicket save for Lorna Thomas, who bowled 10 overs for only 10 runs.
Gradwell continued her excellent day as she made a composed 46 opening the reply. Two quick wickets to England Academy spinner Wyatt raised some doubts in the Warrington camp, but from 83-3, the run chase was kept on track by a mature partnership of 46 from Lauren Griffiths and Jennie Kitzinger.
In the Cheshire Women’s League, division one, Appleton went down to the powerful Chester Boughton Hall side.
The Chester side batted first and reach 149-7, largely due to a match-winning 81 from Ali Cutler. Anni Rashid took 3-17 for Appleton.
Appleton could only muster 108-8, Amy Page top scoring with 30.
