Dunn returns to Town

WARRINGTON Town manager Paul Moore has moved quickly to try and turn

around the club’s fortunes by bringing in the experienced former Town

player Joey Dunn as his assistant.
Dunn (pictured right) was controversially sacked as manager by Blue Square North Conference outfit Burscough earlier this season after taking over from Liam Watson who resigned to take the Southport job. Dunn had been his number two for two seasons.
Dunn played for Warrington as a striker under Director of Football Derek Brownbill in the early 1990’s and is looking forward to being reacquainted with the club.
Following a run of seven games without a win Moore has parted company with his assistant Mike Walsh after thinking “long and hard” about his own future at the club after the disappointing 2-0 home defeat to lowly Harrogate Railway.
But Moore, who left Unibond Premier outfit Leek to take over his home town club is keen to “finish what I have started” at Warrington.
He still believes his team is in better shape than when he arrived 12 months ago and if it hadn’t been for injuries to key players, including top goal scorer Thomas Lamb, Town would be much higher up the table and competing for a place in the end of season play offs.
“I still believe I can turn things around at Warrington and I think having someone with Joey’s experience alongside me will soon have the team turning the corner.
“I can understand the disappointment of the directors and the fans as we should be punching our weight higher up the table – but there is still a long way to go this season.
“Some of the players need to look at themselves and realise they have not delivered. I have put a lot of hard work into developing this team, too much to just walk away.
“I believe Warrington Town still have a great future and the team should be competing at a higher level.”
Despite poor league performances renewed interest in the club has seen a healthy increase in crowds, with all games now pulling three figures.
Work is also still going on behind the scenes with the club a key partner in the £30 million Orford Park Project, which will bring state of the art training and community facilities to the town as part of a new purpose built sporting village complex.
