Students in beach clean operation

ENVIRONMENTALLY friendly students at the Warrington campus of the University of Chester have been pulling on their rubber gloves and opening their bin sacks as they embarked on a coastal clean up in Lancashire.
Members of staff and six volunteers joined others from across the region to clear the Fleetwood Beach shoreline of rubbish.
Braving the weather, the volunteers collected the rubbish off the beach and deposited it in a local authority refuse vehicle.
Volunteer co-ordinator, Claire Britton said: “There was quite a lot of debris, such as quilt lining.
“It was satisfying to help clear the beach, and to see the results of our hard work. This follows the success of other beach cleans we have been involved with. Last year we helped out at Hightown Beach on the Alt Estuary.
“Over the years we have been amazed by what we have discovered – a couple of years ago we found an entire bathroom suite on a beach at Morecambe.”
The operation, which involves hundreds of students across the North West, takes place every year at beauty spots around the area.
Claire added: “I would like to thank all the volunteers from the university who helped. It was both an enjoyable and rewarding day.”
