No New Year cheer for Town

Colwyn Bay 7 Warrington Town 1
TOWN travelled to Wales in confident mood after gaining a creditable 0-0 draw against league leaders Retford at the weekend, but it was the home side that started brightest.
The early flash point came when Matty Elder was shown a yellow card for a tough challenge, which led to a coming together of the sides. The only surprise was that it took until the 36th minute before the score was opened, when Bay striker Neil Black rose unmarked to head into an open goal after good save by Danny Morton.
Shortly before half time, Bay went 2-0 up when striker Anthony Murt looped the ball over a diving over Morton, but within seconds Town were back in the game, when Conner Taylor took an excellent Danny Toone cross field pass before beating the last defender and keeper to make the score 2-1.
Town started the second half brightly, with midfielder Franny Smith curling a 20 yard free kick onto the underside of the bar, but the ball bounced away to safety. Bay struck the killer blow shortly afterwards, midfielder Adam Wade saw his cross fall precisely into the far corner of the net, much to his own surprise it seemed.
Bay were now on top and on the hour would have gone further ahead, but for an excellent double save by Morton. With 12 minutes to go Bay added to their lead, striker Anthony Murt beating Morton once again. Soon after it was 5-1, when central defender Chris Taylor rose unmarked to score from a Bay free kick. Murt completed his hat trick shortly after dispatching a penalty past stand in keeper, Lee Thompson, after Danny Morton had been sent off. The final goal came shortly before the end when Bay substitute Mark Quayle scored with a deflected effort.
