Kidsgrove Athletic 0 V 1 Warrington Town
Warrington Town Kept up their impressive league form with a controversial last minute winner against Kidsgrove Athletic in a Uni Bond Dision One South fixture.
Town started the game well, controlling the majority of the play for long spells in the first half.
The Wire entered the break all square, and came out of the traps quickly in the second half.
Lee Thompson had what looked to be a certain penalty waved away, and then should have put Town in front, only for a brilliant save from the Kidsgrove keeper.
The away side were beginning to take control of the game again, but could not make the break through after squandering a few good opportunities.
Liam Coyne was temporarily forced off with a head injury mid way through the second half, with the home side putting Town’s goal under serious pressure during Coyne’s absence.
Keeper Danny Morton made some good stops to keep Kidsgrove at bay, before Coyne’s return gave the Wire fresh impetus.
With the game heading towards a stalemate, the referee controversially waved play on when a Kidsgrove player had been flagged for offside, leaving town with a counter-attack opportunity.
The dispute didn’t end there as two of town’s substitutes combined when Ged Courtney broke down the right and centred for an unmarked Graeme Mitchell to head home.
Kidsgrove’s angry protests for an offside decision to be given on Mitchell went unanswered and Town came away with all three points.
