PEOPLE are being warned of the dangers of trespassing on potentially hazardous sites following a series of break- ins at the disused Warrington Baths building.
The warning about potential hazards at the Legh Street building comes from Coun Mike Biggin, the borough council’s executive member for public protection.
He said: “You are putting yourselves at risk by trespassing on potentially hazardous sites and I cannot emphasise strongly enough that the risks are simply not worth taking.
“Fortunately, no one was injured on these occasions but the council wants people to realise the risks they are taking before anyone gets hurt, even if their intentions are harmless. It has also cost money and resources to secure the building.”
Coun Biggin warned it was important to remind children and young people about being safe while out playing, especially during the summer holidays.
The council warns that derelict or unused buildings can be unsafe to trespassers and that those entering are breaking the law. Officers also say that damage caused by trespassers could be expensive for the council to repair.
