Security fence approved at NHS centre

PLANNING chiefs have approved proposals for a 12ft high security fence around a teenage mental health facility at Warrington – despite objections from nearby residents.
Members of the borough council’s planning sub-committee visited Fairhaven Young People’s Unit, in Birch Avenue, Winwick before reaching their decision.
They decided the scheme could go ahead because the fence would be 65 metres from the nearest house and would be a mesh fence to limit its visual impact.
Neighbours had objected on the grounds the fence would have a harmful visual impact, would have a detrimental impact on the Green Belt and cause a loss of outlook.
There was also concern at why there was a need for a security fence.
The application was by the 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Trust who run the facility which is a specialist in-patient mental health facility for teenage children and young people.
