SOCCER star Robbie Savage and England women’s international Sue Smith are teaming up with Warrington Town FC to launch “Active Soccer” camps at Cantilever Park, kicking off this half term.
Welsh international Savage, (pictured right) who currently skippers Derby County and Sue are both ambassadors for the soccer franchise, which will be running fun football camps on June 1 and 2 with the soccer stars planning to attend special summer camps during the main school holidays.
Simon Dow, (pictured left) who is running Warrington Active soccer said: “As both a coach and player I have gained many things from football and feel privileged to be in a position to provide this opportunity to many children.
“The best thing as a football coach is watching the children you coach develop many new skills while having great fun and improving their confidence. Through football children can not only keep themselves healthy but also make new friends.
“All of these things led me to becoming a football coach and it is something I am still massively enthusiastic about.
“I am delighted to have this opportunity to team up with Warrington Town and develop soccer around the town, linking up with the local schools.”
Active Soccer camps provide fun, healthy and inclusive play through accessible, progressive and structured football programmes that compliment current government initiatives for all young people aged 4 – 14yrs.
This is done with the belief that every child should be able to participate in the program of his or her choice regardless of race, religion, creed, gender, ability, or financial status. This spirit is fostered in an environment where everyone has a chance to play and learn, regardless of skill. Through this Active Soccer attempts to help deliver the government targets of 2 hours of physical activity per week delivered through schools, to work with parents towards the goal of an hour of moderate intensity activity 5 times a week.
The events are open to children aged 5 – 14 years old. Children need to bring with them a packed lunch, plenty of drinks, shin pads, football boots and wet weather clothing. Registration is at 9am and the cost is £10 per child per day.
Coaching sessions involve passing, shooting, dribbling and matches will involve a mini World Cup.
There will be competitions including penalty king, certificates for all participants and prizes for best attitude with the day finishing at 3pm.
