Council launches electoral review

0

WARRINGTON Borough Council has launched a review of its electoral cycle with a proposal to move to whole council elections from next year.
The current approach is to elect a third of the council each year for three years and then have a year without an election. The new proposal would mean a move to all out elections every four years with no elections in-between.
The change will go out for consultation as part of a wider discussion around the current Local Government Boundary Commission for England review currently taking place in Warrington.
The Boundary Commission is currently gathering information about the council and views on a proposed council size before consulting on new ward boundaries from May 12.
The electoral cycle consultation is separate from the Boundary Commission’s review of council size and wards.
Following the conclusion of the consultation, a special meeting of the council will be
held on Monday March 30 to determine the electoral cycle.
Town and parish councils and all residents are invited to give their views as part of the consultation.
Deadline for replies is Friday February 27.

Consultation leaflets are also available in council buildings and libraries.
