WARRINGTON Wolves ended their three-week training camp in Australia with a 34-28 win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The Wolves dominated the opening stages against a Rabbitohs outfit fielding a number of “rookies” scoring four tries without reply from Rhys Evans, Simon Grix, Rhys Williams and Ryan Atkins before the NRL side, still over a month away from the start of their season, responded.
The hosts started to chip away at Warrington’s 24-0 lead with Shaune Corrigan the first over, with more scores following from Brandon McKinnon and Ryan Carr.
Nathan Peats then brought them to within two points at 24-22 and, even though Chris Bridge scored for Warrington, Corrigan’s second made it 28-28.
But Gareth O’Brien ensured that Smith’s men headed for home on a winning note, scoring the final try with six minutes remaining.
The game was played in great spirit with Matt King lining up against his former team mates as the Wolves were cheered on by a vocal following.
