Car fire and collision cause traffic delays on M6 near Lymm

A car fire and a collision on the M6 near Lymm caused heavy traffic and lengthy delays in and around the Warrington area this afternoon.

Traffic was brought to a standstill southbound between junction 20 of the M56 and the Lymm Interchange and junction 19 for Knutsford shortly after 1pm causing congestion to junction 21 of the M6 at Woolston.

No sooner had the blaze been dealt with there was another incident on the northbound carriageway involving a minor injury collision. All lanes are now re-opened.

Earlier fire crews also tackled a van fire on the M56 at 12.45pm. A van was well alight between junction 10 and 11. The road has now reopened.
