BURTONWOOD Post Office is now open for business following a move to a new home in the village library as part of a modernisation programme.

Local leisure and library provider LiveWire secured approval to deliver the Post Office from the library building as part of a major programme of modernisation taking place across the Post Office network.

Residents can now visit the library and make use of the Post Office services during their visit to the facility, which sits in the heart of the village.

Burtonwood Library will now be open for an extra 23.5 hours every week. This follows a consultation where residents were invited to have their say on the proposal.

Working closely with the Post Office and also Warrington Borough Council as part of the wider Library Programme, the new Post Office Counter has successfully been installed and staff have recently undergone Post Office training.

Residents and small business customers can access a range of services including special delivery, local collect, home shopping returns and online banking deposits and withdrawals.

Other services include Post Office Card Account, MoneyGram, paying bills, pre-ordering travel money and insurance referrals and topping up mobile phones.

Emma Hutchinson, managing director of LiveWire, said: “LiveWire is delighted to have successfully gone through a detailed application process to deliver the Post Office local services from the existing Burtonwood Library building. We’re really pleased to be able to bring two key community services together under one roof.”

Warrington Borough Council’s executive board member for leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “We are committed to investing in a sustainable future for our library service, and our Libraries Partnership Board is helping us deliver some really innovative plans. It’s great news that Burtonwood Post Office and library is now open for business. It will be a fantastic asset for the local community.”

Suzanne Richardson, Post Office Regional Network Manager said: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”

The new Post Office will be open during Burtonwood Library’s opening hours which are 9:00am to 5.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11:00am to 7:00pm on Thursdays, 9:00am to 1:00pm on Fridays and 9.30am to 1:00pm on Saturdays.
