Campaign for double yellow lines

A campaign has been launched for double yellow lines to be painted on both sides of Pepper Street in Lymm.

Local Councillor Anna Fradgley and local campaigner Joan Stocker, together with a team of supporters have knocked on all 360 houses in and around the Pepper Street ‘cul-de-sac’ asking residents to sign their petition.

Sixty percent of households have been in when they called and fully support the proposal with only five objections.

They are calling for the yellow lines on both sides of the road up to the Rosebank Centre entrance.

Cllr Fradgley said: “Cars parked along Pepper Street cause an obstruction. It means that the street is narrowed down to one lane, which causes cars to back up onto Rectory Lane and Pepper Street. It is particularly a problem during the Ravenbank School run. Not only that, parents with buggies and wheel chair users have to move into the road, as they can’t get past the parked cars on the pavement.

“I have contacted Warrington Borough Council to increase the enforcement of cars illegally parked on the current single yellow lines, which have now been repainted. The restricted times are Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and
Saturday 8am to 1pm. I am astounded by the number of cars that park there during the day, after I worked hard to get the one hour free parking back and it is free on Sundays!

“The police are now more vigilant in the area, and will be booking cars that are illegally parked opposite the entrance to Pepper Street car park and cause an obstruction. Police advise the public to report illegal obstructions by calling 101 or emailing PC Chris Davies [email protected] They must provide the time, date, registration number and preferably a photo. This also applies to illegal parking elsewhere in the village.”

Joan added: “We are also asking Warrington Borough Council to review parking in and around Pepper Street. I know that there are many other areas in Lymm which also suffer from parking problems, so this is just the tip of the iceberg.”
