Safety fencing needed at accident blackspot

CULCHETH and Glazebury Parish Council is calling for improved fencing at an accident blackspot where pedestrians are at risk from vehicles careering off the road.
The danger spot is in Warrington Road, near the former New Inn where railings on the left hand side of the road, heading towards the village, have been repeatedly hit by cars.
On one occasion, the railings were pushed inwards hard up against the wall of nearby flats.
Cllr Keith Bland said: “Parents walk along here, taking their children to school. If anyone had been there at the time of the crash they could have been killed or seriously injured.
“We have approached the borough council but have been told that neither they nor the police have any record of accidents at this point.
“It may be that there have been no accidents involving injuries but there have been three or four collisions with the fence in recent months. I am sure the borough council must have a record of the number of times they have had to repair the railings – and how much it has cost.
“What is needed is stronger, motorway-style railings which would prevent vehicles from coming off the road.
“We could also do with something to slow traffic down at this point.”
The parish council is pressing the borough for action – before there is a serious accident.
