Sunshine, showers and a Hole in One at St. Rocco’s Golf Day

THERE was sunshine, showers and a Hole in One at the annual St. Rocco’s Golf Day at Warrington Golf Club.

A record-breaking nineteen teams took part including four players from Warrington Wolves – Ashton Sims, Chris Hill, Stefan Ratchford and Brad Dwyer who all rushed straight from training and onto the course to complete their eighteen holes.

The morning looked set fair as the golfers gathered in the club house for bacon butties before setting out. Rain later on couldn’t dampen their spirits, especially for Bobby Fitzpatrick from the Contratti team who hit his first ever hole in one on the 7th!

With sponsors Rybrook Jaguar offering a Jaguar F-Pace for 48 hours to the golfer who achieved the longest drive and providing prizes for the top three teams, there was a lot to play for. The eventual winners were the Urban Building Projects team with Contratti and Complete Roofing Systems Ltd coming second and third respectively.

Vicky Hewitt from Rybrook Jaguar said, “We are very pleased to team up with St. Rocco’s once again for this event and help them to continue to look after those in the Warrington community who need their care. It’s always a really good day.”

Off the course the golfers were just as generous, supporting patient care at the hospice by entering both the raffle and the silent auction as they enjoyed refreshments at the end of the day.

A long weekend at a holiday cottage in Haworth, Yorkshire kindly provided by Mr and Mrs Jones was won by Kevin Walker from Walker Begley. Keith Robertson was very pleased to have submitted the winning bid for a cycling shirt worn by three time Olympic Gold medal cyclist, Ed Clancy at the Rio Olympics.

Rachel Ingham, Community Fundraiser from St. Rocco’s said, “The Golf Day is a real fixture in our events calendar and we’re delighted that so many businesses, organisations and individuals have supported us this year. Many familiar faces from previous years are here, as well as lots of new ones.

“We’d like to extend our thanks to all of those who took part as well as Warrington Golf Club, sponsors Rybrook Jaguar and to Urban Building Projects, Solar Communications and Walker Begley Accountants who sponsored holes on the course. Having this kind of support from local businesses and organisations makes a real difference in helping us to care for our patients and their families.”

The date is now set for 2018 on Wednesday, September 12 . Email [email protected] for more details.

The next event for St. Rocco’s is the popular Children’s Lantern Walk on Sunday October 22 at Orford Jubilee Park. You can sign up by going to http://www.stroccos.org.uk/events/childrens-lantern-walk/
