WARRINGTON’S Radio General is celebrating 60 years of providing a “feel good” music service to patients in the town’s hospital.

With the agreement of the Charity Commission, Radio General’s aims have been widened now to include broadcasting to the community. By streaming their service on the internet, they are now able to reach a wider audience in Warrington and surrounding areas.

As part of the celebrations,  they are broadcasting live for 60 hours this weekend, starting at 10am tomorrow   through to 10pm on Sunday.

As well as the regular programmes, they will be live at the Rixton Carnival on Saturday from 12pm which is followed by live commentary on the Warrington Wolves v Catalans Dragons match at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.  On Sunday, during the day they will be live from the Lymm Historic Transport Day.

The main reason for the service hasn’t been forgotten, however,  with record request programmes at 8pm on Friday,  Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Keith Inman, Radio General’s  secretary, said: “It’s great to be able to celebrate the service which is still going strong after 60 years.

The year started with the launch of our internet service and it is planned to have a reunion in November.’’

The live stream will broadcast current shows playing in the hospital, and can be accessed through the Radio General website or the Tunein app. This will benefit the audience greatly, as patients allowed to return home can still listen to the feel better station whilst finishing their recovery.
