Warrington Borough Council’s south neighbourhood team is offering a free dementia awareness session to mark Dementia Awareness Week 2017.

The session will be held on Saturday May 20, 10.30am – 11.30am at Sandy Lane Community Centre, Sandy Lane, Stockton Heath, WA4 2AY.

The purpose of the session is to provide crucial awareness of the issues surrounding dementia, what it is and how it’s caused. Attendees will learn about the general signs and symptoms and gain insight into the life of someone living with dementia.

The session also aims to improve awareness of how to understand the behaviour of sufferers and raise understanding of the barriers to communication and how to overcome them.

Stephen Reddy, executive director for families and wellbeing at Warrington Borough Council, said: “Previous community awareness sessions have been a great success. Many members of the public were eager to learn how they can help in the fight against dementia, gaining information and tips in an informal and friendly environment.

We hope to replicate this success across Warrington and help make the community as a whole more dementia friendly.”

If you are interested in attending the session or would like more information, please contact the south area team on 01925 443187 or email [email protected].
