Roads and parks close as Storm Doris hits Warrington

UPDATED: STORM Doris has struck in Warrington causing chaos on local roads as Thelwall Viaduct was closed in both directions due to high winds.

The A49 was also closed in both directions from the M56 Junction 10 at Stretton to the A533 Runcorn Road, Northwich, due to a fallen tree. Thelwall Viaduct was eventually re-opened at around 15.30pm

The A57 at Woolston and Wilderspool causeway became gridlocked with traffic following the motorway

Meanwhile Warrington Borough Council announced the closure of Walton Hall and Gardens while Gullivers’ World at Westbrook has also closed for the day.

At Stockton Heath the roof was literally blown off the top of local take away India, India on London Road.

Hollins Lane, Winwick, was closed in both directions at the junction with the A49 Newton Road, because of a fallen tree.

Winwick Road at Croft was also closed due to a fallen tree and Ellesmere Road, Stockton Heath was also closed.

Cromwell Road was also closed between Winwick Road and Callands Road

Warrington Town FC have also had to cancel for half term soccer camp.

In nearby Runcorn Firefighters were called to a report that a roof has blown off a row of terrace houses in Handforth Lane.

On arrival crews discovered that part of the flat roof on a row of three storey properties was hanging over the road. This was affecting a number of properties.

Crews have set up a cordon around the incident and are working to make the scene safe.
