Make a date with Race for Life this valentine’s day

THIS Valentine’s Day women in Warrington are being encouraged to make a date with Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Event organisers are asking women to share the love by signing up for a Race for Life Pretty Muddy event at Victoria Park. The event will take place later this year, on Sunday, May 7.

Jennifer Ward, Cancer Research UK’s North West Events Manager, said: “Valentine’s Day is the perfect date to enter Race for Life. By taking part, and raising money for life-saving research, participants will be playing a crucial role in helping more men, women and children survive cancer – giving them the chance to have more time with their loved ones.

Every day, around 110 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West. That’s why we’re calling on women in Warrington to make a date to beat cancer this Valentine’s Day. Together, we can stop this devastating disease in its tracks.”

One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before. Survival rates have doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Cancer Research UK spent over £23 million in North West last year, on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research.

Last year, Race for Life Pretty Muddy took place for the first time in Warrington. The women-only, non-competitive 5k obstacle course – with an extra helping of mud – received a whole-hearted welcome from the thousands of women who took part.

Women can complete the course at their own pace, climbing, jumping, walking and laughing their way around. It’s about women of all ages tackling cancer together.

In Cheshire, Pretty Muddy will also take place in Tatton Park on Saturday 24 June and at Reaseheath College on Saturday 30 September.

Jennifer continued: “Race for Life events are non-competitive and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course. Whether they’re planning a 5k amble with friends, a 10k sprint or a mud-splattered race around Pretty Muddy, every step participants take will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

“This Valentine’s Day, we’re calling on ladies in Warrington to sign up and be part of a collective force of women who are united in their aim to beat cancer sooner.”
