WARRINGTON has yet again been acknowledged as the number one “city” in the UK for high-growing small businesses.
Independent research by Informi, a website offering useful advice for small businesses, looking at 65 UK cities, put Warrington top for the second year running in terms of having the highest proportion of the highest proportion of h8gh-growth girms between 2011 and 21014 – 15.8 per cent compared with the national average of 11.8 per cent.
The findings come ahead of Small Business Saturday, tomorrow (December 3).
Informi studied a number of factors that can be significant for smaller company survival, including the density of small and medium sized businesses (SMEs), digital connectivity and house prices.
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council said:  “Warrington consistently tops the UK city economic growth tables and it is very encouraging that we have maintained our position as the best city and place in the UK where SME’s can grow and thrive.”
In the New Year the council, in partnership with Warrington and Co., will present its updated ambitious economic growth framework “Warrington Means Business”.
Cllr O’Neill added: “The previous document was approved three years ago and needs revision due to the sheer pace of growth and development that we have underway. Since being launched in 2013 we have announced development projects totalling £750 million which have created over 4,500 jobs. The updated document will further increase growth  and create even more jobs and opportunities for the people of Warrington.”
Steve Park, managing director of Warrington and Co., Warrington’s partnership for economic growth added: “This is further encouraging news and a clear vindication of investment decisions made by private sector businesses in Warrington in recent years. Warrington’s SME’s are the lifeblood of the Warrington economy and at Warrington and Co. we play a key role in helping small businesses grow.
“The national initiative Small Business Saturday takes place this weekend and we are planning a very active Warrington and Co  twitter campaign where we will be supporting and retweeting all of our small businesses using the hashtag #SBSWarrington throughout the day, sending positive messages about Warrington as the number one city in the UK in which to invest and grow as a small business.’
