Warrington Town end of season awards

MIDFIELDER Danny Ventre scooped the Player of the Year award at Warrington Town’s end of season presentation following their title winning campaign.

It was just reward for the former Accrington Stanley midfielder, who surprisingly missed out on inclusion in the league’s team of the year.

One of the three Town players who did make that selection was central defender James McCarten, and he walked away with the Town Players’ Player of the Year award.

League top scorer and Player of the Year Ciaran Kilheeney received special recognition for his record-breaking season, as did goalkeeper Karl Wills following 25 clean sheets in a memorable campaign.

Hometown winger Chris Gahgan received an award for passing 250 appearances for the club, including 88 goals, while McCarten (150 appearances), Craig Robinson and Scott Metcalfe (both 100) also received awards for passing milestones.

McCarten beat off competition from Gahgan and Kilheeney to be crowned Supporters’ Player of the Year, with secretary Janette Fillingham also presenting Wills with an award from the supporters for his achievements.

There was a clean sweep in both the Reserves and Academy awards, with strikers Rhys Bowers and Euan Woods both picking up Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year for the Reserves and Academy respectively.

The inaugural Peter Turner Award was given to Jon Barton, for his dedication to the club this season.

  1. Well done to town for a fantastic season gaining promotion.Having strived with Town for 10 years in 60s and 70s we never reached what was our goal to gain promotion out of the mid cheshire league. The team made a few finals but we lost 3 in a fortnight one season.Best of luck for next year you have done the Town proud.
