A LECTURER in Children’s Nursing at the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester has been shortlisted for a prestigious award, recognising her commitment to educating and inspiring students.
Lucy Wallace is described as an “outstanding nurse educator who is admired by students, academics and practice staff”.
The Student Nursing Times award, which will be announced at a ceremony in London on Thursday, April 28, recognises that excellent teaching is the foundation of the future generations of nurses. A teacher can inspire, enthuse and motivate students and further their quest for knowledge and understanding.
Kim Gibbon, head of Midwifery, Child and Reproductive Health, who nominated Lucy for the award, along with lecturer Jo Fox, said: “Lucy is an exceptionally passionate lecturer who naturally engages her learners and provides well-structured learning opportunities that inspire and motivate students to learn and develop.
“Students feel comfortable and confident to ask questions in Lucy’s lectures and her sessions are described as lively and stimulating. She is committed to student engagement and goes above and beyond to ensure each student reaches their potential and this is evidenced by the excellent grades and employment students achieve, following the successful completion of their programme.
“She also provides outstanding pastoral support and is an inspirational role model to junior academics and is always approachable.”
Kim added: “Lucy is a huge ambassador for nurse education especially children’s nursing and always promotes the significance of the role with pride and enthusiasm – this is reflected in Lucy’s students who have recently established a Children’s Nursing Society. We wish her the best of luck.”
Lucy said: “To have been nominated for the award is a huge honour, but for my work to have been recognised by the students and colleagues means that I feel I have won already!”
