Councillor slams Government over flood relief support

WARRINGTON Borough Council’s finance chief has slammed the Government over the continuing lack of financial support for victims of recent flooding in the town.
Cllr Russ Bowden (pictured), the council lead member for corporate finance, says the town has been “short-changed” by the Tory Government.
Cllr Bowden said: “The floods experienced over the festive period were devastating for residents and businesses in some parts of Warrington.
“In response, the council has made financial assistance available in the form of Council Tax and Business Rates relief for those affected.
“We have also offered a £500 grant to residents to help with the clean-up.
“However, despite grand statements by Tory Ministers, none of the promised Government funding has yet been made available to Warrington.  “We are pressing DCLG to include us in the financial package being offered, but weeks later we have still to get any support.
“The grant that we have offered is currently being funded by this Council, not by the Government.  Once again, Warrington is being short-changed by the Tories.”
Application forms for financial assistance for the victims of flooding are available from the council’s website at:
