Reid: Warrington dream is building

TITLE chasing Warrington Town manager Shaun Reid says the potential of the club is starting to build as it gears up for the biggest three months in its history.

Town are nine points clear of Northwich, having played five games more, at the top of the Evo-Stik League First Division North table on the back of an imperious run of form that has seen just one defeat in 23 league matches.

It’s now a two-horse race for the title and a promotion would catapult the club to the highest level it has ever been, just two promotions from the National League (formerly the Football Conference).

The next test to Reid’s side’s title credentials comes on Saturday, when Scarborough Athletic visit Cantilever Park.

Town’s last league home game saw a crowd of 1,095 turn out to see Warrington triumph 4-2 over closest rivals Northwich.

Reid said: “You know and I know the potential of this club is massive. And that’s why when I got offered the job, I took it. That’s not me being big headed, I realised the potential of it then, and it’s building isn’t it?”

“Every game is a cup final now. I went through my career as a professional footballer and never won a league title. They are few and far between and you’ve got to take that chance, and these boys are taking it.

“You feel as though they believe in what we’re doing and the way we’re playing. You’re not going to be able to play football every week. Some days you’ve got to go, when conditions aren’t great, and be mentally strong and you’ve got to win a football match.

“That’s why we’re nine points clear at the top of the league and that’s why I’ve got a smile on my face.

“We banged the drum about the Northwich game and the thing about it was a great  atmosphere in conditions that weren’t conducive to watching football.

“I’m hoping that half of them come back to the next game on Saturday.”

Warrington Town face Scarborough Athletic at Cantilever Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off). You can pay on the turnstile at £8 adults, £5 concessions, £2 for U16s. U16s are free with a paying adult.
