Yellows bid fond farewell to FA Cup heroes

WARRINGTON Town have bid a fond farewell to two of their “F.A Cup heroes” Nathan Burke and Ben Wharton.

Midfielder Burke, who was linked with a move to Southport in the summer, has signed for Welsh Premier League Bala, following on from striker Wharton, who has moved up a division to Ashton United.

Both were members of the club’s historic FA Cup journey last season.

Burke has joined a team challenging for the title and the chance of European football next season, while Wharton, who has struggled to gain a place in Town’s starting line up, has moved to gain regular football.toby

Club Chairman Toby Macormac (pictured right) said: “We wish both players well and they have been fantastic club servants.

“We understand their decisions to move on and they will always be given a warm welcome here at Cantilever Park.

“We have freshened the squad up recently with some quality signings in Joe Holt and Phil Dean and also seen the return of Warren Beattie.

“We also have plenty of emerging talent as we saw with the youngsters who performed so well in the Cheshire Cup.”

“Our full focus is continuing with our push for promotion and the visit of Scarborough on Saturday.”
