Warrington Youth Club launches Marathon Challenge

WARRINGTON Youth Club is recruiting an army of runners and walkers to take part in its Marathon Challenge to help young people as they take their first big step back into school life.

Taking place between the 3rd and 9th August, the club is appealing for teams of friends, colleagues and families to tackle the 26.2 miles between them – or individually – over the course of the week.
This can be done in chunks or as a whole – so if you’ve always wanted to take part in a marathon, there’s no better time or way to do it… and you’ll be raising money to help young people across Warrington!
All funds raised will go towards providing Education Mentors for young people going back to school in September.
Many young people have struggled in lockdown through missing months of formal education without any structure, limited contact with friends and family, emotional well-being problems, and are nervous about returning to school; and Warrington Youth Club wants to provide them with 1-2-1 guidance, and a helping hand, to support them back into education and improve their mental health.
There’s no limit to team size, and you can run, walk, hop, skip or do it any way you want, on any day you want!
The Youth Club is just asking each team member to donate £10 as an entry fee, and then raise sponsorship from friends and family, and every £1 raised will be matched by The Hoppy Trust up to £5,000.
The Youth Club is also joining forces with Active Cheshire, to reach as many people as possible, and it’s a great opportunity for a team-building activity, to compete against the rest, have fun, and lose those lockdown pounds!

Chief Executive Dave McNicholl said: “We’re really excited to be having our first ever Marathon Team Challenge, as we attempt to raise funds for new Education Mentors to help young people. We know that many have struggled during the crisis and our new Mentors will help them with their emotional wellbeing, to get back on track in school, and offer a listening ear. We would love to hear from businesses, families, or individuals who are interested in taking part, in what will be a great event!”
There will be awards for fastest time, most interesting route, and other categories, and the Youth Club is also asking participants to screenshot their times and distances on Strava or similar devices, or a photo on a treadmill that shows the time and distance travelled as well as photos and videos of the challenge,
If people are interested, they can email [email protected] with the team name, and details of main contact and team members; and entry fees and sponsorship can be paid via www.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/learningmentors with a reference to which it relates to.
