Council draws up robust plans for school closures

WITH all schools, colleges, childcare providers and other educational settings now closed to the majority of pupils until further notice due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Warrington council says robust plans have been drawn up for the closure period.

It is vital that, where possible, children are kept at home in order to slow down the transmission of the virus.

Cllr Matt Smith, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Throughout the outbreak, we have been communicating and working with all of our schools, as well as other education settings, to keep them updated and to offer support.

“We have been working closely with school leaders to work through the details since the government made the announcement last week. In partnership, we have drawn up robust plans for the closure period and, together, we are looking at ways we can continue to effectively support schools to provide children and young people with learning and development opportunities during this time.

“We understand this is an incredibly difficult time for all schools and staff, as well as early years’ settings and childcare providers, parents, carers and families. We are working hard to ensure appropriate support is available, including the provision of food and educational resources.”
