BIGGER and better than ever before, Radio Warrington’s latest poetry competition – organised in conjunction with Culture Warrington and Warrington Arts Council, is now open.

This year it includes two categories: an open category for poems on any subject and a heritage category for poems about Warrington’s past.

A £50 book token will be awarded to the best adult poem and the best junior poem in each category with additional prizes being awarded to the runners up. Winners will also be given the opportunity to perform their poems live on air.

Commented Brian Spooner, co-presenter of Radio Warrington’s Culture Show and one of the competition’s judges: “Our 2018 poetry competition was a resounding success with over 100 people entering their work. This time around, not only do we have a new junior section for people aged 11 to 15, we’ve created an additional category for poems about Warrington’s heritage. We’ve also got some superb prizes up for grabs courtesy of our sponsors who include Culture Warrington, Shelly’s Restaurant, The Friends of Warrington Transporter Bridge and the Friends of Real Lancashire.”

Entry forms are available from the leaflet dispensers at Warrington Market or in the town’s libraries, Alternatively, people can enter online at tinyurl.com/y6gtbjlv

Poems can be up to 500 words in length and the deadline for entries is midnight on Saturday 15th February 2020. Winners will be announced on Radio Warrington’s Culture Show on Thursday 19th March 2020.
