Warrington well represented in cross country league

WARRINGTON Athletic Club were represented in all but the under-20 women when the second round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League took place.
The first race was the under 11’s where Spencer Astbury was the first from the club in the boys race finishing in 21st place in 9 minutes 17 seconds.
He was backed up by Dylan Langley and Thomas Darbyshire in 56th and 59th places in 10 minutes 52 seconds and 10 minutes 58 seconds respectively for the team to finish 13th on 136 points.
In the girls race Ellie Barker finished in 12th place with a time of 9 minutes 26 seconds and along with identical twins Cara and Sinead Gregory in 24th and 27th places in 10 minutes 09 seconds and 10 minutes 24 seconds respectively the team finished in 6th place on 60 points.
The B team of Brooke Watson (10.49),Iris Hurst (11.04) and Natasha Andrews (11.31) finished in 35th ,53rd and 68th places for a total of 153 points to finish 17th overall and 5th B team. Maisy Devine in 74th place in 12 minutes exactly completed the club squad.
In the under 13 age group Jacob Pryor had an excellent run in the boys race finishing in 8th place in 11 minutes 08 seconds and Reece Croasdale made his debut for the club finishing in 25th place in 11 minutes 39 seconds.
In the girls race Imogen Wharton and Alice Nicholson ran well to finish in 9th and 10th places with times of 12 minutes exactly and 12 minutes 03 seconds and backed up by Imogen’s twin Nia in 18th place in 12 minutes 17 seconds the team finished in 4th place on 37 points.Evie Owen ran her usual gutsy rce finishing 48th in 13 minutes 40 seconds.
In the under 15 boys race Erik Marshall was the only runner from the club and ran well to finish in 9th place with a time of 14 minutes 14 seconds.
In the girls race Orla Gregory had an excellent run to finish second with a time of 15 minutes 05 seconds and was backed up by Eva Ferris and Jasmine Jones who had a race long battle wih Eva just prevailing in 17th place with Jasmine in 18th with times of 16 minutes 36 seconds and 16 minutes 38 seconds for the team to finish 3rd on 37 points.The B team of Lucie Davies (16.51),Molly Wormald (17.13) and Maisie Bell (17.52) finished in 20th,24th and 30th places to finish 9th overall and 2nd B team on 74 points.
In the under 17 age group Joe Roberts ran excellently to finish in 6th place in 20 minutes 15 seconds and with Joel Birchall and Isaaq Ataullah in 15th and 16th places with times of 20 minutes 40 seconds and 20 minutes 48 seconds respectively the team finished in 2nd place on 37points. In the girls race Fay Humphreys was the only runner finishing 28th in 36 minutes 11 seconds.
In the senior/under 20 women’s race Faye Lawton ran well to finish in 109th place overall with a time of 32 minutes 47 seconds placing her 39th in the 20 to 34 age group. Leanne Astbury finished in 177th place with a time of 35 minutes 37 seconds placing her 31st in the over 35 age group. Emma Pryor finished in approximately 140th place with an aproximate time of 34 minutes which would move Leanne down one place in the over 35 age group but has been omitted from the provisional result which has been published.
The day was brought to a close by the senior/under 20 race where eight runners from the club took part. First to finish ws Dave Watson who ran superbly to finish in 28th place in a time of 34 minutes 35 seconds to win the over 45 age group. Jordan Jones was next to finish in 40th place in 35 minutes 26 seconds with Ben Webb 55th in 36 minutes 16 seconds, Steve Watmough 80th in 37 minutes 04 seconds (1st over 55),Dave Norman 147th in 39 minutes 20 seconds (4th over 55) and the team was completed in 172nd place by Charlie Turnbull in 39 minutes 56 seconds. Daniel Newman finished in 196th place (16th over 50) in 40 minutes 24 seconds and Steve Burthem was the final runner from the club in 308th place overall in 44 minutes 06 seconds placing 12th in the over 55 age group.In the team competitions that senior team finished in 13th place overall on 516 points while the Masters team of Dave Watson, Steve Watmough, Dave Norman and Daniel Newman were 9th on 157 points. In the under 20 age group Jordan Jones was 5th,Ben Webb 9th and Charlie 17th and as a team they finished 3rd on 30 points after an unattached runner was discounted from the team event.
