A school that's really special

WARRINGTON’S biggest special school is “wonderful”, according to Ofsted inspectors.
Green Lane School, at Padgate has retained its outstanding status from a previous inspection more than two years ago.
The school caters for more than 120 pupils, aged 4-16
Ofsted inspectors say that since the last inspection, in 2007, school leaders have not just maintained their “outstanding” status but have worked even harder in the best interests of pupils.
The curriculum, quality of teaching, leadership, attendance and the relationships between pupils are just some of the many aspects of school life judged to be outstanding.
Staff are commended for using resources very effectively and basic skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT are taught extremely well.
The report states that “pupils enjoy their work very much” and feel safe and secure.
Inspectors are very impressed with pupils’ maturity, self discipline and the way in which they persevere with their work.
There is also praise for the ways in which parents are engaged in pupils’ learning through family learning workshops and focus groups.
The report also highlights the involvement of governors who are very knowledgeable about the work of the school involvement at the school and are highly involved in setting priorities.
Parents have also expressed their appreciation of the quality of teaching leadership and management and the fact that the school keeps their children safe.
To enable the school to improve even further, the reports recommends providing more stimulating outdoor learning opportunities in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Headteacher Paul King said: “We are all delighted with this report and the fact that it recognises the commitment and dedication of all our staff and the achievements of all our pupils.
“Their willingness to learn is matched by our staff’s willingness to teach, nurture and encourage and this is just one of the many aspects that have lead to our success.
“However, it doesn’t stop here for us. We will continue to strive for only the best education for our pupils, to provide a safe and fun environment for them to learn in to help give them the best start in life.”
Governors chairman Tony Cosgrove said: “To receive a second outstanding report is fantastic news and I must congratulate the whole school community who have much to celebrate.
“The headteacher, staff, children, parents and governors can feel very proud of the school and we look forward to even more success in the future.”
