Heavy defeat for Grappenhall at Widnes

GRAPPENHALL suffered a heavy defeat at Widnes after the home side had set a target of 239.
Olly Knight removed the openers cheaply but Widnes recovered from 22-3 thanks to good performances from the middle order. Skipper Adam Roylance, with 4-49 was the pick of the Grappenhall bowling.
But Grappers’ batting let them down with Knight top scoring with 30, only two other batsmen reaching double figures and the side crashing out for 94 without earning a single batting point.
The result left Grappers languishing second to bottom in the Vivio Cheshire County League premier division and needing to find form quickly.
Grappenhall 2nd won their first game of the season at home to Didsbury by five wickets. Grappers bowled Didsbury out for 127 with Ben Cagna picking up four wickets and Ross Arrowsmith with four. Grappers chased down the total with Graeme Rowlands scoring 47 not out.
On Sunday Grappenhall 3rd held on to draw at home to Stockport Georgians. Stockport posted 200 and Grappers finished 120-9 at the end.
Warrington enjoyed a four wicket victory over Christleton at Walton Lea.
The visitors were dismissed for a modest 113 with Brad McIntosh taking 3-31, Jonathan Fletcher 3-19 and skipper James Rudd 3-9.
Warrington lost four cheap wickets but recovered from 30-4 to claim the match thanks to an unbeaten 54 from Malcolm Agar.
Warrington 2nd won by 73 runs at Sale after racking up 278-3. Dan Rudd hit 80, skipper Tushar Mahambrey 75 not out and James Lewis 68 not out.
The home side made a solid start but eventually were all out for 205, Rudd completing a fine all round performance with 4-46, Phil Whelan 3-37 and Shashwat Rusia 3-46.
In the UKFast Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park lost to North East Cheshire after a nail-biting finish at Poynton.
Lymm batted first and reached 181-9, opener Blake Munilla top scoring with 42.
The home side struggled at first and were looking down and out at 126-8, but the tail hit out and reached their target with one wicket remaining.
Travis Scholes took 3-54 and Sam Pendlebury 3-19.
Lymm 2nd won by seven wickets after restricting Northwich to 148-6 at Oughtrington Lane. Tony Spaven took 3-20.
Steven Gladwin hit 45 not out and Graham Waumsley 34 not out at Lymm chased down the total.
Appleton earned a draw against Winnington Park at Lyons Lane after the visitors had batted first and hit 223-5 declared, Martin Evans contributing a fine 119.
Matthias Paltridge responded with a classy hundred of his own when Appleton batted, hitting `114 from 140 balls and enabling his side to secure maximum batting points as they finished on 188-5.
Appleton 2nd suffered a defeat at Kingsley, despite posting a challenging target of 210-5. Ed Sygrove, 89 and Rick Clarke, 99, put on 197 for the third wicket after Appleton had stumbled to 4-2.
A combination of a wet ball, poor bowling and a fine 105 not out from Andrew Ainsworth saw Kinglsey home with eight wickets and two overs to spare.
Appleton 3rd also tasted defeat against Mellor at the Grange in Latchford.
Batting first, Mellor posted 251-3 before declaring after just 35 overs. Appleton never looked likely to chase that total down, but 60 from Alex Pickering helped them reach a respectable 196.
Appleton 4th went down at Bunbury.
Tom Lomas hit 66 not out as they hit 170-6 from their 40 overs. Bunbury took just 33 overs to reach their target thanks to 65 from skipper James McNeil
Stretton went down by eight wickets after being tumbled out for 98 at Wilmslow.
But Stretton 2nd turned the tables in the return match at Stretton, hammering 202-3 after restricting Wilmslow to 200-5. Openers Hassan, 85 and Abhnay, 59, scored most of the runs.
Glazebury won by 90 runs at home to Winsford, hitting 174-9, Jordan Carroll top scoring with 47 and John Brunt hitting 24.
Winsford succumbed to the pace of Sam Stanier to bagged 9-26 as the visitors were dismissed for 84, only one man reaching double figures.
A depleted Glazebury 2nd took a mauling at Knutsford where the home side hammered 305-5 and the bowled Glazebury out for 45, only two batsmen getting into double figures.
Warrington 3rd, 199-9 declared, drew with Middlewich, 187-6 and Warrington 4th defeated Rostherne by 93 runs.
