LYMM in Bloom volunteers are set to make a bog garden in Ridgway Grundy Memorial Park as part of this year’s entry to the Britain in Bloom North West competition.
The volunteers have also been working hard to create a welcoming bed in the Davies Way Car Park, a border in Ridgway Grundy Memorial Park and a rose garden in the Sunken Garden.
After last year’s “drought”, the group are trying to come up with ideas to help use water better.
Chairman Ben Selwood said: “We have made great progress since we have started, seven year ago. Back then, some of the weeds in Sunken Garden were four foot high. Now we have thinned out the shrubs, painted and cleaned the street furniture, weeded and planted the garden up it is a credit to the village. This year we are planning to continue our success by creating a bog garden for the park.”
The group also has big plans for the future, including a couple of new beds in Ridgway Grundy, a woodland walk and a new planter at the dam head. They are also working with the Bright Future’s School Allotment and Oughtrington Community Orchard for this year’s entry.
Thanking all the volunteers that keep the working group going, Ben added: “ We need to recruit volunteers to keep the momentum going, now we are well established. The village does not plant and water itself. All the planting in the village centre is done and looked after by volunteers.”
“We are also appealing to business to help by doing bloom themed window displays for when the judging takes place in July/August time.”
The group is also extremely grateful about the support they receive from Lymm Parish Council and receive help from many of the other groups and businesses in Lymm such as the Lymm Festivities Group, Lymm Jubilee WI, Keep Lymm Kleen,
Lymm Jubilee Gardening Club, Lymm Open Gardens, as well as Warrington Borough Council’s Street Services department. Volunteers from Lymm in Bloom also run a gardening club at Statham Community Primary School, as well as helping to look after the grounds at St Peter’s Church.
Lymm in Bloom is always looking for volunteers to help plant, weed, deadhead and litter pick areas in Lymm. The group meet every last Sunday in the month at 10:30am in Sunken Garden (In between Sexton’s and Karl Welsh Florists).
