Music festival organised by the River Reeves Foundation, which was set up in memory of the Viola Beach guitarist River Reeves, his band mates and manager, who were all killed in a tragic accident in February 2016. This event includes headliners Lottery Winners and features No Hot Ashes, Kula Bay and special guests.

Theatre – Friday 13 July 2018 (8pm) – Celebration, Florida

Featuring two unrehearsed performers who have never met, this quietly surreal show is for anyone who has ever missed anyone or anything. Veering between reality and simulation, it orbits around ideas of surrogacy; a stand-in for someone you miss, and nostalgia for a place that never existed. Commissioned by Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival.

Join us for the first ever interactive, visual, history of hip hop block party, told by the innovator, the pioneer, one of the creators of Hip Hop music…the one and only Grandmaster Flash.

Demonstrating the breaks from the original 70s records and records sleeves shown live on screen, this fantastic event will show you the amazing history of Hip Hop, the People, the Places & Things that started it all whilst cuttin’ and scratchin’ your favourite tunes on the turntables for one huge, live, interactive, visual Hip Hop block party.

NEW AND ONGOING EXHIBITIONS

Art – Saturday 5 May 2018 to Saturday 2 March 2019 (All day) – Warrington Art Treasures: The National Picture

This is the third in a series of exhibitions celebrating landmark events for the oldest public museum in the North West. Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is joining forces with National Museums Liverpool by loaning three fantastic works, thanks to the support of The Garfield Weston Loan Foundation and Art Fund. The three works coming to the museum are Enrico Coleman’s Oxen Drawing a Block of Stone to the Studio of John Warrington Wood, and Sir Luke Fildes’ A Portrait of Fanny Fildes and The Widower.

Contemporary art – Saturday 12 May 2018 to Saturday 15 September 2018 (All day) – How to Dust the Surface

Commissioned by Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival, this intriguing new work explores what new things could be created if data was decoded a little differently. Artists Juan Covelli and Neale Willis take on the role of contemporary archaeologists, searching for and sifting data from key sites around Warrington and the collections of Warrington Museum, before manipulating the way the computer processes the data to create new and surprising outcomes.

Community art – Saturday 26 May 2018 to Saturday 21 July 2018 (All Day) – Touching Senses

Work by residents of Cheshire Grange Care Home assisted by Debbie Lyon. The idea behind this project was to use art to evoke dormant memories and thoughts amongst people who normally struggle to express themselves. During each session group leader Debbie used different mediums to stimulate and develop different physical and mental connections that can only be made through the creative process.

History – Saturday 30 June to Saturday 15 September 2018 (All Day) – Days of the New Town: Birchwood at 50

In 1968, Warrington was one of several towns across the country to be designated a New Town. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Warrington New Town, Warrington Museum & Art Gallery are presenting a new exhibition that brings together photographs from the Development Corporation archive and a “people’s archive”, which reflect Birchwood as both the architects’ vision and its lived and evolving reality.

Workshop – Tuesday 3 July 2018 (11.15am and 1.15pm) – Understanding Pigments workshop with Marc Turner

Have you ever wondered how paint is made? Well this is your opportunity to learn how. Come along and watch local artist Marc Turner explain and demonstrate how this process has developed from the early masters right up to modern day. There are two workshops; one from 11:15am to 12:45pm, and the other from 1:15pm to 2:45pm.This event was made possible with a grant from the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund.

Workshop – Saturday 7 July 2018 (10am-1pm) – Julie Scott Workshop: Inspired by Nature

Warrington Museum & Art Gallery has teamed up with artist Julie Scott to deliver a series of workshops in celebration of its Warrington Art Treasures exhibition. Join Julie as you discover how nature has inspired so many artists, including many of the pieces in our gallery. Julie will also help you create your own sketches and paintings, while offering her professional advice on how to improve. Contemporary art – Saturday 7 July to Friday 31 August (All Day) – Your history of the future

Culture Warrington has teamed up with contemporary artist Gillian Hobson and Golden Square shopping centre to create a unique piece of film celebrating the town of Warrington for the extended 2017 Contemporary Arts Festival. By asking people across the area to nominate their favourite places, Hobson recreates these hotspots to create a kaleidoscope of colours, shapes, and patterns.

Exhibition – Thursday 12 July to Saturday 1 September (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) – One, by Robert Watson

Following a unanimous decision by the judges, Robert Watson was awarded winner of the 2017 Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival Photography Open. This prize exhibition will showcase a selection of his stunning images.

Workshop – Tuesday 17 July 2018 (11.15am-2.45pm) – Understanding Colour with Marc Turner

This unique workshop offers you the chance to work closely with artist Marc Turner to understand more about how to use colour. In addition to creating your very own colour wheel, you will also get the chance to learn more about what warm and cool colours are, what value in colour theory is, and why we need to understand this to improve our paintings. This event was made possible with a grant from the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund.
