MP Faisal Rashid has met with Health Minister Steve Brine in Westminster to discuss the failings of the Chapelford Health Centre project.
For more than 10 years, the Chapelford Health Centre that serves the Chapelford Urban Village has been operating out of a poracabin on a piece of waste ground while approval and funding for the permanent surgery on the reserved site had been sought.
The meeting follows Faisal’s recent question in the House of Commons about the delays that have beset the project, and last month it was announced that capital funding for the site had now been approved.
The MP for Warrington South said: “I am pleased to hear that long-awaited progress has been made with Chapelford Health Centre and that we are a significant step closer to local residents finally having access to the GP facilities they were promised over 10 years ago.
“The temporary facility in Chapelford has been operating out of a portacabin on waste land for many years due to excessive delays and the failings of various NHS bodies involved in this project. Residents rightly feel let down by the delays.
“I am very grateful to the local ward councillors, Rebecca Knowles, Steve Parish and Paul Warburton, for working closely with me on this important issue.
“I want to assure residents that we will not rest until the Health Centre has been completed and the doors are finally open to patients.”
Working alongside Chapelford and Old Hall councillors, Faisal has also taken the issue right to the top of the NHS, raising concerns with the chief executive of NHS England, Sir Simon Stevens.
He has also arranged local meetings with the council and Warrington CCG to iron out any final issues.
